For your luxurious abode, we have handpicked this breathtaking piece of craft, hand made by the Walnut Wood master artisans of Kashmir. The elaborate wall hanging is a manifestation of the splendid craftsmanship of Kashmiri artisans, being handed over from generation to generation. The process of creating this masterpiece undergoes several steps before this beauty of a wall plate is created. Large planks of walnut wood are first cut into desired sizes, the entire step known as "Laekker Chirrun". These are then left to dry till the wood only retains 10% of its moisture. Once dried, the wood is passed on to a carpenter who shapes itto a frame, which then moves to the hero of our story, the Naqash , who breathes a new life into this bland piece of wood and engraves it with all his skill and precision. This particular piece displays a shallow undercut of Kashmiri flora and fauna, meaning that the detailed engraving comes several inches away from the base of the wall hanging. This entire procedure takes an effort of almost 3 months on part of the artisan as he creates puts all his skills and experience into this brilliant piece of art.
Ghulam Nabi Dar is a 63 year old master craftsman who strives to revive the lost craftsmanship of the valley by carving out unmatched beauties in walnut wood which take him up to six months to complete. He, along with his group of artisans believes in restoring the glory of walnut wood artistry to what it was 50 years ago. The artisan specializes in undercuts (Khokurdar), Jalidar, Deep carving (vobreivith) and shallow carving (sadikaem) - practices which have more or less been abandoned by Kashmiri artisans in the modern era.
